President Gives a Short Lifeline to Carmakers

Given the topic this week, and talking about electoral mandates, I found this article to be quite appropriate. Americans are sick of hearing news about companies using federal bailout money to pay bonuses and give vacations to their employees. In this article Obama is giving almost an ultimatum to GM and Chrysler. Voters elected Obama to bring change to Washington D.C. and solve the economic issues being faced by our country. In my opinion, he is issuing this demand to these carmakers in response to his electoral mandate. The citizens want action!

  1. The President, who does indeed have a strong mandate, is acting boldly to deal with this and other crises, as he should.

  2. I think it's a good thing to hold the CEO's accountable for the domestic auto industry's poor conditions. Granted it's not entirely their faults, I'm sure they are getting paid way way higher than everyone else, so a change in leadership seems like a good thing to me

  3. I think that the president acting this way is not really part of his duty. Who is he to fire the CEO of GM, yes he is our elected president, but that does not mean we want him running our big business. We need to remember what makes this country what it is, it is the freedom we have. Once the government starts taking action like this we become closer to a socialist regime, which happens to be what we could be going towards with President Obama.
